Masks 4 WV Launches with Senator Manchin and United Ways

The United Way of Marion and Taylor Counties in cooperation with the office of Senator Joe Machin announce support for MASKS 4 WV initiative - a statewide call to sew. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE). We are asking volunteers who have the ability to sew to make masks. If you are not able to sew, we will accept donations of clean and new 100% cotton fabric and elastic that can be used for ear loops.

United Way Executive Director Brett White stated, “We are proud to join with our other United Ways across West Virginia to kick off the effort and are pleased to help coordinate volunteerism statewide.”

Starting Tuesday, March 24, all United Way agencies statewide will collect crafted masks and donated supplies in designated collection sites. Locally, individuals can drop off their completed masks at three convenient locations:

  1. Price Cutter- 1208 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont
  2. Price Cutter- 1015 Indiana Ave, Fairmont
  3. Gump’s Shop ‘N Save- 57 Maple Ave, Grafton

Masks will be donated to medical staff, first responders, and healthcare facilities right here in Marion and Taylor counties.

The masks are easy to make this! You can watch a video for instruction at https://youtu.be/VNvRl5AXt8IPlease note that the pattern requires 100% cotton material. If elastic is unavailable for ear loops, it is acceptable for ties to be made from the fabric.

For any questions, please call the United Way at 304-366-4550. If you would like to make a monetary donation to MASKS 4 WV, United Way established the Marion/Taylor Response & Recovery Fund in response to the pandemic. Just text COVIDMTC to 91999 to make a donation or visit http://bit.ly/covid-uwmtc
