The United Way of Marion and Taylor Counties celebrated another successful campaign year with their Campaign Celebration on January 16, 2020 at the Robert Mollohan Research Center. The 2020 campaign crossed over the half a million-dollar mark for the second time ever, raising $503,475 to help support our local community.
Over 800 individual donors participated in the annual fundraising drive with over 111 leadership gifts of $500 or more. The Emerging Leaders program, which is in its second year, saw over 45 young leaders join.
Fairmont State University took the top honor of the event with the “Best of the Best” Award. They raised their largest amount ever in their 40-year campaign history with over $31,54. Mon Power took home the Campaign Cornerstone Award for their continued commitment. They raised over $93,588, making them the largest workplace campaign again this year. Fairmont Federal Credit Union raised over $8,100 and was recognized with the Gleason and Jean Kuhn Growth and Innovation Award. Christine Miller, Taylor County Superintendent, was recognized with the annual Chairman’s Award for her commitment to the campaign.
Amanda Moore of Fairmont Federal Credit Union was recognized as the Outstanding Employee Coordinator. JT and Patricia Hodges were recognized with the Rev. Jack “Donal” Squires Award for their transformative donation of property that has become the new home of United Way’s offices.
The Rotary Club of South Fairmont presented a check for $63,500 to the campaign, representing the total raised from the 12th annual Celebration of Lights. Attendees thanked Patrick and Amy Snively for her leadership of the 2020 campaign and presented them with special plaques to commemorate their year as Chairs. The Snivelys thanked the group during their last official duty and passed the torch to the 2021 campaign chair, Devanna Corley, of Civil and Environmental Consultants.
